The Mehndi ( or Henna ) ceremony is a pre- wedding celebration where the bride and her female family members and friends get their hands decorated with intricate henna designs. This is not only a joyous occasion but it also symbolizes the strength of the friendship between the wedding and her future vietnamese brides hubby.

On the day of the ceremony, the bride is typically escorted to her groom’s home by her parental uncle and is welcomed by the female members of the couple’s relatives with crimson boxes of funds( much like we might notice a “celebrity” make a grand entrance at their marriage). The groom makes his way to the mandap where he sits alongside the bride and takes seven steps, which are similar to saying their vows in a western wedding.

The tying of the knot is typically followed by the Saptapadi, where the couple promises themselves and each other that they will honor their parents, live in harmony and treat each other with respect. Then the newly married couple will leave for their honeymoon! Traditionally, the groom would escort his bride back to her parents on the third day after the wedding and honor them by paying respects to their elders. This was to thank them for raising her and to show their appreciation and respect for her.
